On our last night in London before we went to Cambridge, we caught up with Andrew and one of his mates for some drinks about town. Was great to see Andrew! First up was the The Soho Arts Theatre Club where they served cocktails in teapots! Great fun! Next, we tubed up to Bar Kick in Shoreditch. First up was shots, but then we played foosball with drinks in hand. Brilliant! Lastly, we wandered over to Brick Lane to check out […]

So, I wanted to see inside a palace. Any palace would do. But once I found out how far Hampton Court palace and Windsor Palace were, we decided one in the city would be better. So Kensington Palace was it. The outside is the main attraction of the palace. It was wonderful ornamental gates and beautfuil gardens. They must have a full time gardening team to maintain all the hedges, flower beds and trimmed lawns. Was quite a sight to […]

So, after a wonderful week out at Wendy’s and Abbey’s place, we went to crash at Caroline’s for a few nights. She had a beautiful whare with Gareth a couple of other kiwis out in Chiswick. They lived in a 3 bedroom place with separate bathroom, separate luandry and a good sized living room. We also love the size of the garden! Of course, it was great to see Caroline and Gareth. They cooked us NZ roast lamb that first […]

As part of our moving to the UK, there was this whole process we had to go through. Part of this process was applying for jobs and going to interviews. I had my interview in Cambridge a week and a half before, and now it was Rob’s turn. Rob’s two main jobs he was applying for – Bosch in Stowmarket (1 hr from London) and Dyson in Malmesbury (3 hr from London). But the first interview Rob had scheduled was […]

So, we have NEWS! Firstly, Rob has accepted the job offer from Bosch and starts work on the 9th August. YAY! He’ll be working in Bosch Gardening in a town called Stowmarket an hour from Cambridge. Considering Dyson was 3 hours away, Bosch is a much more manageable commute. Our second bit of news is that we have found a rental property and move in on the 7th or 8th of August. YAY! It’s a little 2 storey Victorian terraced […]

So, we were back in London for a week and a half. A lovely, relaxing, week and a half. We spent most of that first week at Wendy and Abbey’s beautiful whare in Clapham North. One sunny afternoon, we decided to venture out to the garden and saw a squirrel eating a cherry out of the tree. What a good idea! So we decided to fetch our own cherries. Rob was up in the tree. And Wendy and Abbey were […]

Our second and third days in Glasgow were great days of wanderings. We started by heading over to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Walking there from town took us through a wonderulf green park with fountains, statues and daycare kids being walked around. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was pretty neat. We ignored the museum part, which was mostly for kids, but the Art Gallery was really interesting. They had a few Monets, Picassos etc. What was great […]

Firstly, on the job front. My role is going really well at ARM and I’m learning lots and have even been given some tasks to contribute toward the team. Yay! Rob has also gotten a job offer from Bosch. Double yay! He’s not accepting it just yet, as he is going to a 2nd round interview on Friday for a Cmabridge company. Bosch is a 45min-1hr commute away, so checking out a more convenient company is a plus. We’ll let […]

Hope you’ve enjoyed having a wee nosy through all the previous posts that have been added to the site yesterday. There are quite a few photos in amongst those posts. I’ll try to make them more accessible in the future. We also have a new Photo Gallery page on the website for the flickr photos so far. But back to Europe. Our second day in Edinburgh was as stunning as the first. In the morning we just wandered around Old […]

So, after too short a time in York, we were on another train to Edinburgh! Our train trip from York to Edinburgh was stunning. The trainline followed up the east coast, sometime running along and coast line so we could see the cliffs, beaches and ocean. We *loved* Edinburgh. What an amazing city! That castle was spectacular. Like the skytower of the city, you could see it from almost anywhere. So awesome. We were reading the tour book, which was […]

Today, I had my first day at work at ARM. My team mates are nice and I’ve got a lot to learn, but I think this role will be great. Rob hass started looking for a rental property for us in Cambridge and is preparing for his second Bosch interview on Thursday. But now back a week and a half to York. We were *wowed* by York. Completely. Really, we quite loved it. So, York is about an hour or […]

Nottingham has great shops and restaurants, lively nightlife and a couple of nice attractions, but we weren’t totally impressed, which was sad. Most of the city’s original and old buildings have either been destroyed or built on top of. Still, we were only there for a day and the hotel had free wifi, so bonus. First on the agenda was heading over to Nottingham Castle. Aside from being surrounded by skyrise car parks and tall 70s office buildings, the castle […]

Aparently the photos in the London blog posts were bad, so I’ve fixed those if you want to go back and look. All the photos can be clicked on to see a bigger version at flickr if you like! So, like I said in the previous blog post, the main reason we were in Cambridge was because I had an interview with a company, ARM (http://www.arm.com), which I have since accepted the position they offered me. We’re definitely moving to […]

The main reason we went to Cambridge was because I had scored an interview with ARM there the week before. So, we booked the train tickets, accommodation and went! It is a wonderful wee city (pop. 130,000) and in the city centre the buildings are all old and beautifully maintained. They have a river that runs along side the city centre, and people go ‘punting’ on it. They’re flat bottomed boats that you push along the river with long sticks […]

That first week in London was wonderful! The week started with us training from Heathrow into Paddington Station. So we got to see Paddington Bear! The bear aside, we got to see a whole lot of things in London and a few people we wanted to catchup with too! First catchup was with the lovely Andrew, who we hadn’t seen in *years*. One of the last people we caught up with because they were away traveling was Caroline and Gareth. […]

Once Rob and I had left Australia, we did spend a few wonderful weeks in New Zealand. However, we’ll post about those a bit later. We want to get into the UK travels! So, we landed in London on the 15th June having spent 24 hours in a plane with a 2 hour layover in Hong Kong. In our first 6 days in London, we did a lot of walking and sight seeing. I love love LOVE that museums are […]
