My workplace gets a bit into the Christmas spirit. It’s not unusual to have decorations in the office and people buy Christmas pies for snacks in the afternoons. What ARM also does quite well at Christmas time is their Christmas party. It was an Asian theme this year inn cuisne and entertainment. They had Bollywood dancers, Chinese acrobatics, actors on stilts and snake dancers as entertainment, which was all quite fun. The food selection was quite varied, but all asian […]

Merry Christmas everyone! We’ve been in London the past week for Christmas, and we’ll tell you all about that soon. We were tragically disappointed that it didn’t snow *during* Christmas, and all the snow had melted by Saturday anyway! But at least the week before we left, it had snowed properly in Cambridge, and was a beautiful white snowy sight to see. We had a lovely walk around town enjoying the snowy look of the place, and wearing a Santa […]

On the 27th November 1990, ARM split out f Acorn and Apple computers collaboration to create a new microprocessor standard. On the 30th of November is the date of the first RISC processor was labelled ARM. So, on the 30th of November 2010, ARM had its 20th birthday celebrations. And what was the first order of the day? Yea. All employees got an iPad as a birthday gift from management. We can use them personally or for work. Mine is […]

One thing we got from our 3 day weekend was that it was getting *cold* in England. It was the coldest November on record, apparently. I say apparently, because we haven’t had a winter here before, so we don’t know any different. But we were pretty pleased with our first day of snow in Cambridge. Our street. Our backyard. I think we may like having a bit of a white winter. Even though we have to bump up the winter […]

We’ve mentioned before that Rob has a 45 minute commute to work (1.5hrs return) every day of the week. Previously, he had been paying petrol money to a coworker, but we were looking for our own ride. So, about a month ago, we finally *finally* bought a car. It’s a beautiful red Honda Jazz. 4 doors, 2 airbags, manual transmission, 1.2 litre and made in 2007. Whoop whoop! We like it much.

We’ve been visiting some more pubs around Cambridge, and indeed we forgot to post one of our summer ones! Still, this post has 5 great pubs we’ve visited in Cambridge, and they’re all pretty great. The Kingston Arms is one of our locals and a beauty at that. It has a lovely beer garden out back and serves delicious food too! Another local we’ve visited with top-notch food is The Geldart. We went up there on a Friday night and […]

Now that winter is upon the UK it is time for winter sports. Liz has taken up hockey so I decided that I could either sit on my ass or play soccer. I was a bit skeptical at first, as I thought I would have to play in the snow and ice, so I decided to sign up for an indoor soccer league. While playing there I met a guy who convinced me to play for his outdoor soccer team, […]

Aparently the last Harry Potter post sent out had bad links to images. My apologies! I’ve fixed all the image links you can see the post again – with the screen capture images from the movies this time. Read the post again… Whil I’ve got you here, I may as well drop some miscellaneous images on you. Recently it was Halloween, and because we’re on such a family oriented street, and we never had trick or treaters in Melbourne, we […]

Piece by piece we’ve been buying furniture and either carrying or cycling it home, with the one exception being the couch. A couple of weeks ago, we made out final living room purchases and construction. And with this final construction, we can consider our living room complete. Previously you’d seen Rob and I carrying a kitchen table and chairs home. Now it looks much prettier with an oilcloth table cloth below. And again there’s the leather couch we’d had delivered. […]

I’ve been pretty lazy this past 6 months. No sport, the occasional cycle around, but nothing really *really* active. But I finally got off my butt and signed up to a local hockey club. Cambridge South Hockey Club, to be exact. It’s a pretty social club, and these are a good bunch of girls too. I felt pretty darn rusty on my skills, but they threw me up as a forward, so I had a good go of it. Aside […]

A few weeks ago, Rob’s mum sent us a wee care package. You see, it’s cold here. Like, much colder than we expected. It’s not even winter yet! So, we requested some of our woolen scarves and beanies. But we got a couple of presents too! A kiwiana table runner and a tea towel from Namibia. Big thanks Helen and Barry! Was a wonderful surprise in the post.

Similar to home, they let farmers put their cattle in public parks. Either that or the land is owned by farmers, and people are allowed through it. Regardless, on a recent cycling trip about town, we stopped to snap some cattle. They looked pretty chilled out. Nice.

Cambridge is just a little city. Population 120,000 not including students. There’s not a huge lot of shopping options. So, we ordered some stuff online. Mr Vintage from NZ, of course. Needed to topup the kiwiana tshirt collection. Though I *swear* they bumped the prices because we overseas and not paying GST. Still, they were worth it. I’ve also been ordering things off etsy, an online crafty store where artistics and crafty people sell their wares. I bought A knitted […]

One great things to come out of the Cambridge Food and Garden Festival was the produce we bought. We got some delicious locally made Apple juice. We bought a selection of yummy chocolate fudges. And we also bought some beautiful wild mushrooms. Combine these ingredients with a fresh loaf of sourdough and a Jaime Olvier recipe, and we have a top notch Sunday lunch. I’ve been getting quite into trying different recipes from the Jamie cookbooks because I can actually […]

We’re still working out all the best ways to find out things that are ‘going on’ in Cambridge. We’ve signed up to a few mailing lists, picked up the free rag mags around but we’re still not in ‘the know’. We’ll work it out, I’m sure. So, I was pretty chuffed when we found out about the Cambridge Food and Garden Festival the week it was happening. We popped out in the drizzle to check it out. It’s only the […]

It’s been getting cold in Cambridge. And its started to rain a lot. When I say rain, I mean drizzle. It likes to drizzle here. So, a couple of weekends ago, we were pleasantly surprised to see it was sunny. So we decided to wander, and take advantage of it. We may not get many more. So here’s some snaps around Cambridge. This is one of the tourist signs in Cambridge, marking out various sites. They’re all over the cbd. […]

When we were cycling to our nearby shopping center, there were a bunch of people hovering around a fence. And then we saw what was through the fence. It’s a steam train called the Cathedrals Express. It looks like the Hogawarts Express! It’s designed for train holidays with sleeper carriages and a restaurant car and everything. Pretty awesome for a random afternoon. 🙂

We love our house. But. Our house has no cupboards, except the kitchen. So, there’s no cupboards for linen; no cupboards for electrical cables; no cupbaords for sports gear… No cupboards! Gah! So, the compromise is to make places to hide the things of life. With boxes. But, this looks yucky. It might be hiding linen, towels, backpacks and more, but it doesn’t look visually pleasing. So, we went out and bought some simple decorating materials. And now, it all […]

We’re still setting up house. Because we’ve been buying furniture from Argos, its all flat packed. We still don’t have a car so transport is a bit fun… Its nice to have new things, but essentials like a coffee table are just satisfying. We also have the less essential, but super tidy, shoe cabinet so then we can hide all our shoes at the front door. Fantastic. Big thanks to Rob for putting all the stuff together!

Hi everyone, So, a general update. Not everything that goes on gets blogged, mostly because not everything has a photo taken of it. Shocking thought, I know. But it’s a reality. So, verbally, here’s some of the cool things that’ve been going on with us. We had a little housewarming party at our new digs. It was mostly my work mates who came, two of my neighbours and an old school friend, Abbi. Rob’s work mates live all over the […]
