Because we actually know people in London (and not too many in Cambridge), it seemed like the better idea to head down to London for the Christmas holidays. And we had a *wonderful* time. Tripping Around During the week, we did touristy things and caught up with a bunch of people, namely Graham G. and Andrew M., Wendy and Abbey and finally Jess C at a Japanese noodle place I’d been dying to try. We tripped around London a bit […]

My workplace gets a bit into the Christmas spirit. It’s not unusual to have decorations in the office and people buy Christmas pies for snacks in the afternoons. What ARM also does quite well at Christmas time is their Christmas party. It was an Asian theme this year inn cuisne and entertainment. They had Bollywood dancers, Chinese acrobatics, actors on stilts and snake dancers as entertainment, which was all quite fun. The food selection was quite varied, but all asian […]

Merry Christmas everyone! We’ve been in London the past week for Christmas, and we’ll tell you all about that soon. We were tragically disappointed that it didn’t snow *during* Christmas, and all the snow had melted by Saturday anyway! But at least the week before we left, it had snowed properly in Cambridge, and was a beautiful white snowy sight to see. We had a lovely walk around town enjoying the snowy look of the place, and wearing a Santa […]

On the 27th November 1990, ARM split out f Acorn and Apple computers collaboration to create a new microprocessor standard. On the 30th of November is the date of the first RISC processor was labelled ARM. So, on the 30th of November 2010, ARM had its 20th birthday celebrations. And what was the first order of the day? Yea. All employees got an iPad as a birthday gift from management. We can use them personally or for work. Mine is […]

One thing we got from our 3 day weekend was that it was getting *cold* in England. It was the coldest November on record, apparently. I say apparently, because we haven’t had a winter here before, so we don’t know any different. But we were pretty pleased with our first day of snow in Cambridge. Our street. Our backyard. I think we may like having a bit of a white winter. Even though we have to bump up the winter […]

From Dover we headed towards Leeds Castle ( and home ). It started off rather snowy. However when we got to the castle it was a beautiful day. Even though the sun was out it was still a bit cold. Leeds castle is surrounded by a lake. It has a gatehouse to stop nasty invaders which has a flood gate which can flood the moat. The gatehouse originally had a drawbridge to the castle, however it was replaced when the […]

After we visited Canterbury we drove over to Dover where the plan was, we would stay a couple of nights and see the sights. The first night we saw the sights of the hotel pub, which I can happily say was the first success of Dover, would our luck hold out? The next morning we woke up to snow, which both of us thought was GREAT (probably the only people in England). We went for a walk along the seaside […]

For at least the next year we’re in the UK, we’re hoping to have a long weekend away every month. In September we were setting up our new house and getting to know Cambridge and in October we went to Oxford. So the next trip in November, we decided to go south to Canterbury and Dover. It’s about a 2 hour drive down that way of the world, taking the M11 then the M25 and finally the M2. It was […]

We’ve mentioned before that Rob has a 45 minute commute to work (1.5hrs return) every day of the week. Previously, he had been paying petrol money to a coworker, but we were looking for our own ride. So, about a month ago, we finally *finally* bought a car. It’s a beautiful red Honda Jazz. 4 doors, 2 airbags, manual transmission, 1.2 litre and made in 2007. Whoop whoop! We like it much.

Rob and I really really enjoyed the All Black tour to Europe. While we didn’t go to see any of the games, we watched every single one on TV. It was great to be able to watch the games at night over a beer instead of watching the trinations at breakfast over a juice. Our favourite game was the All Blacks vs England coz we went down to London and caught up with a bunch of mates to watch it. […]
