You can fly between the Greek Islands, but for some distances, it’s just as easy to ferry. And these are huge ferries that carry 100’s of people. So a 2hr ferry and a 1hr bus trip later, we arrived at the quiet and quaint Elia Beach on Mykonos. Awesomely, our 2 bedroom unit was on the beach – so cool! Elia Beach is definitely one of the quieter beaches – no clubs and only 1 bar and restaurant. So we had […]

Last August/September, our good mate Darren was visiting Europe and he and Ali asked if we wanted to join them for a trip to the Greek Islands. The answer was hell yes. A 1hr train, 4hr flight and 1hr bus trip later and we were at our hotel in Oia on the far side of Santorini. And this was our view… Unbelievably remarkably stunning. We were one of the many many places built into the cliff and painted white. We were […]

For a lovely long weekend, we decided to finally visit the south of France. We’d heard so many positive reviews, so we booked a hotel in Nice for some sun, sand and French cuisine. The sun shone and the beaches were, well, rocky. But that didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves. For once we hadn’t pre-organised a bunch of things to look at, so we wandered around enjoying the architecture and the food. We booked ourselves into the lovely little […]

Pembrokeshire is a beautiful part of Wales – lovely beachy coastlines and pretty seaside towns. But it was freezing! I’m wearing all my warm clothes to block an icy wind in the photo below. We were staying in the seaside town of Tenby – built on the cliff to a sheltered harbour where all the buildings are painted candy colours. Nice! It was a really great place to stay, with an enjoyable selection of pubs and restaurants. Just off the the […]

Because it was the Queen’s Jubilee this year (that is, she’d been the Monarch for 60 years), Britain got a 4 day weekend instead of the usual 3 for Queen’s birthday. We figured that was an excuse to go for a trip, so took some friends to Norfolk for a look’n’see. First stop on our drive to Cromer was Sandringham House, where the Queen has spent her winters since she was a child. We got to be good Samaritans on the way […]

On the 4th day of our trip to Munich we had a bike ride down the river Isar. The Barvarians treat the river bank like the beach and it was packed, so we had quite a bit of cycling to get to a nice quiet spot. We took a BBQ and some refreshments down to the river with us to make sure that we enjoyed ourselves. Once we were settled, we got the BBQ going ( two man ) to […]

So the third day we were in Munich we were taken for a hike around some of the Alps. View Munich Alps in a larger map We met at 10am with Heike and Lukas at Walchensee, which is about 1 hour south of Munich. We started the day with a nice relaxing gondola ride up the mountain ( easy hike so far ) which took us up to 1100m elevation. There was an amazing view from the top. From the […]

Last month, we had our first English beach holiday. We drove down to Bournemouth so that: Miss could learn to kite surf (one of her list items) Rob could hire and kite surf (he misses it much) I could do some reading (I’m reading a good series right now!) Well, we accomplished the first and last one. Unfortunately, Rob was out of luck (no kite surf hire available) but Miss got to learn how its done. She started on the […]

We still haven’t managed to leave Britain yet for any of our trips. Darn it! But still, there are many beautiful things still to see in the UK. We decided to head out for a daytrip to one of them for a special treat. Norfolk is one of the neighbouring regions to Cambrigdeshire here and it’s coast bends from the north side of Norfolk round to the East. We wanted to go up to the North to visit some sights […]

One of the key things Rob was looking forward to about going to NZ was kitesurfing with his brother. The winds in Melbourne are great for kitesurfing, but its always better if you’ve got a buddy to go with. The boys went out both at Pt Chevalier and at Snell’s Beach. Was pretty neat conditions at Pt Chevalier when we went down. The tide was so far out, but there were dozens of kites out. It took the boys a […]

It took us a while to leave Australia. We intended to leave in 2009 but the economy was too poor in the UK or US to consider it. So we stayed another year. Then at the beginning of 2010, we decided it was time. So we put in Rob’s visa application (thanks for my UK passport Dad), waited 6 weeks for the approval and were in NZ a month later. We’ve had four wonderful years in Oz. Here’s a collection […]
