During our 4 years in the UK, we visited 27 different Harry Potter film locations. Some of these sights were ‘because we could’ ones, like going to Lambeth Bridge because the Knight bus drove over it, or visiting the touristy Platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross station. But the directors of the films also picked some amazing and iconic locations, some of which I would never have visited because of a tour guide, but ended up being some of the most […]

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know that Rob is amazing. The reason he’s amazing? Because for the last 4 years, he let me drag him all over the UK to visit Harry Potter film locations. Yes, I am a fan of the films, but I’m also a fan of all the amazing locations that the various Harry Potter directors used in these films. And I had one more to see last year – Harrow School’s […]

Over the last year or 2, I’ve been continuing to visit various Harry Potter film sights around the country (dragging Rob along with me). This post almost finishes the whole list of Harry Potter sights I aimed to see! Let’s start at the beginning. One of the more iconic sights from the first few films is Platform 9 3/4 – a brick wall between train platforms. However, for the first couple of years I was in Cambridge, Platform 9 3/4 […]

We had a wonderful 3 nights in Wales, with delicious food and plenty of beers. It was time to go home, but we had one more sight to see – Gloucester Cathedral. This cathedral is stunning and very Gothic. It’s pretty amazing. Originally a Saxon abbey, a Norman church was built on top by a group by Benedictine monk in the 12th century. Then, when Edward II was murdered in 1327, the church was chosen as his burial place, making […]

Pembrokeshire is a beautiful part of Wales – lovely beachy coastlines and pretty seaside towns. But it was freezing! I’m wearing all my warm clothes to block an icy wind in the photo below. We were staying in the seaside town of Tenby – built on the cliff to a sheltered harbour where all the buildings are painted candy colours. Nice! It was a really great place to stay, with an enjoyable selection of pubs and restaurants. Just off the the […]

For Easter this year, we wanted to go on a wee roadtrip and see some more of this country. We’ve made several trips around England, 3 to Scotland but only 1 to Wales. We’d heard that Pembrokeshire in the South West of Wales was a beautiful part of the country, so loaded the car and head off. It’s a 5 hour drive to Tenby in Pembrokeshire where we were staying, so we planned a couple of stops on a cold […]

After our busy walking day at Hadrian’s Wall, we drove away through the farmlands of Northumberland all lined with their pilfered Hadrian’s Wall stone. We wound our way up to Alnwick to visit a beautiful 700 year old castle – Alnwick Castle. And yes – I convinced Rob’s parents to leap into the air for a photo. Choice! Alnwick Castle is the ancestral home of the 12th Duke of Northumberland (55 year old Ralph Percy) though the family only live […]

Scotland is a long drive from Cambridge – 9 hours without stopping. Yikes! To break the trip up we stopped in Yorkshire for 1 night on the way up and 1 night on the way down. I may have also arranged the Yorkshire stops to be near some Harry Potter movie locations. Yes! Malham Cove Our first stop on the way to Scotland was at the small town of Malham in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s a beautiful part of […]

An adventurous part of our trip to Scotland was seeing some Harry Potter movie locations. Yep, there are a few, but we only went to two. Firstly, we went to Loch Etive – a picturesque lake at the end of a long valley. The lake edge was used in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 as one of the beautiful camping spots. This scene was where Ron has an argument with the others and leaves the group.   […]

As many of you know, I’m a Harry Potter fan (Liz, not Rob). I’ve read the books, I’ve seen the films, I even have a few collectables. So when I heard about the Harry Potter Studio Tour, there was no question about it. We were going to see it. And Elly too. The rumour was that Warner Bros. Studios had kept every prop, set and costume so they could be put on display. Normally, a film studio will sell everything […]

A few weekends ago we decided to go for a road trip out to Suffolk to have a look around. Primarily to see Bury St Edmunds, the Greene King Brewery and a small town called Lavenham. When wandering through Bury, the walkway went through a derelict cemetery.. I still don’t understand how they treat cemetery’s like they do. Bury St Edmunds is a lovely old town with quite a bit of history. Below I am standing outside one of the old Abbey gates. It is host […]

Over the past year since we moved to Britain, we’ve been visiting various film locations where different Harry Potter films were shot. I updated the list with new sights from the more recent films, however there’s still plenty of older ones we haven’t seen yet. I’ve been holding onto a couple of these, but now it’s time to post them. The first one here is from HP3 – HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban. When Harry rides the Knight bus, […]

Recently, there was big thing on in London. You know? They booked the whole of Trafalgar Square and people slept on the streets to get a place in there. Yea, the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere. So, we didn’t sleep on the streets. But we did go down and check out the madness. It was Harry Potter crazy down there! There were so so many fans there, some dressed up, some parked in their positions that […]

Another little day trip, and this time to satisfy my need to see a red squirrel. Or a badger. Or some kind of native British animal. I’d settle for some owls. I think we can manage that much. So, we went to a nearby wildlife park for a visit – Shepreth Wildlife Park. Yea. We’d been warned that it was a small park, but nice. And it was small but crammed with animals. Most of the animals there were very […]

The other reason to see Christ Church College and the Bodelian Library is because Harry Potter was filmed here! XD So, all the photos on the left are screen caps from the movie, and all the photos on the right are snaps of us in the real location! The main stairwell up to the Dining Hall was used when Harry and his classmates first enter Hogwarts. The smaller images are screenshots from the movies, and the bigger images are pictures […]

When we were cycling to our nearby shopping center, there were a bunch of people hovering around a fence. And then we saw what was through the fence. It’s a steam train called the Cathedrals Express. It looks like the Hogawarts Express! It’s designed for train holidays with sleeper carriages and a restaurant car and everything. Pretty awesome for a random afternoon. 🙂

So, the last blog post was an overview of all the Harry Potter sightings we want to do. So far, we have done 4 of them. 10 more to go! So, we went to London Zoo as previously posted and saw 1. Reptile House, London Zoo On one afternoon wandering around London, we also went to try and find 4. Gringott’s Bank, London. My instructions had been to go to Australia House, the Australian embassy in London. Well, we got […]

So, as we’ve travelling around, I’ve been trying *trying* to see as many Harry Potter film locations as I could. So, below is a Harry Potter wishlist with screenshots from the movies of what they looked like there. Not all the scenes in the movies are of real places unfortunately, but below are a bunch which are. I do not own any of these images, Warner Brothers does! 1. Reptile House, London Zoo – When Harry and the Dursleys go […]

So, we have NEWS! Firstly, Rob has accepted the job offer from Bosch and starts work on the 9th August. YAY! He’ll be working in Bosch Gardening in a town called Stowmarket an hour from Cambridge. Considering Dyson was 3 hours away, Bosch is a much more manageable commute. Our second bit of news is that we have found a rental property and move in on the 7th or 8th of August. YAY! It’s a little 2 storey Victorian terraced […]
